Seven Kingdoms Trilogy - Kristin Cashore
Bitterblue

Where to begin with these books! I think one of the things I love best, for the purposes of Bitterblue fic, is how her characters learn to make the kind of relationships they want, instead of sticking to convention. This dovetails nicely with Bitterblue having to navigate her position as queen. I also love how strongly these characters feel about the people they care about, and the sweetness of the rare times Bitterblue gets to see her favorite people is lovely and sad at the same time. I’d love to see her with any of her Lienid family, Katsa (such a sweet friendship), or Giddon. Some prompts:

Bitterblue/Giddon - There is never enough fic of these two. I like the trust they form, the kind of honesty game Bitterblue plays with Giddon. It’s such a refreshing part of the book, and Giddon is so...nice, with her. You get to see a more vulnerable and honorable side of him. Special bonus for dealing with Bitterblue thinking they have very different desires for a relationship - that Giddon would want traditional marriage, kids, etc. and that she needs to marry for politics and she may not be able to choose Giddon for that. Is she wrong? Is there a way to compromise? Do they choose something that may be temporary, but is needed now? If there is a non-Giddon marriage prospect, how does he come into those decisions?

Uncovering the past: One of my favorite things in the book was the way Bitterblue kept uncovering bits of Monsea’s history and culture that Leck had buried. I’d love to see her learning more about her home that she never knew, or organizing ways to bring back/re-teach her people traditions she learns about, taking joy in reclaiming Monsea for itself. Better yet to have friends helping her, or to make new friends in the process.

Other: I also have a soft spot for the idea of Bitterblue realizing some of her feelings about Katsa are romantic, or otherwise exploring the idea of being into girls as well. (Generally, any tender romance stuff or understanding herself better is good; I'm genuinely not choosy on ships for her, the separate Giddon/Bitterblue prompt is just because I've read as many of those as I could find).

Blades in the Dark (RPG)
Any (Baszo Baz, Mylera Klev, Lady Thorn)

I love this setting for its wealth of half told stories and hooks and the feeling of only scratching the surface of understanding the world - for the characters, too, who are living in a wreck of a world about which much is forgotten or unknown or lost and waiting to be found. I love the stories of loyalties forged and tested in fire. I love the plots and schemes, and fighting hard sometimes just to survive. It's a world full of terrible things: what do you hold onto? And how do you keep or gain it?

Here feel absolutely free to use any character, OCs, even no character for in-universe media (love the bits like that on energy and food in the book).

Bazso - Loyalty is a fun and vexed question with Bazso. On the knife’s edge of losing or winning, how and why is Bazso compelled to put the Empty Vessel first - and what does the fallout look like in Crow’s Foot? Is there anyone he’d put before himself? (What does a quiet moment of affection look like for them, in the midst of a turf war? Does the other know?) I also really enjoy clever, ruthless characters outplaying others and gaining their goals against the odds, and Bazso is tailor-made for that. (Bonus points: I picture him dark-haired, austerely attired, and a little smirky - but I’ve never not enjoyed someone’s interpretation).

Mylera Klev - Mylera has a fun almost double-identity possibility - she could be involved in the political intrigues among the elite of Duskwall. It’s quite possible she’s a scion of Iruvian nobility herself. I’d love to see her moving in those circles and playing the political games. I’m also a sucker for swordplay, and she’s literally based in a sword-fighting school. Seeing a hint of the recruitment process there might be fun, too. And like with Bazso, the war over Crow’s Foot provides an opportunity to see her be shrewd and ruthless and dangerously competent.

Lady Thorn - Hey, look, more opportunity for loyalty fun. I’ve clearly got a pattern in Blades. I love the idea of the Deathlands Scavengers as a sort of found family, patchwork and strange, living in close quarters in a treacherous landscape. Almost the feel of people living in, say, an Arctic research station - that remoteness and danger and need for specific procedures and survival tactics, though possibly a more ready ability to reach town, though not without risk. I want to see Lady Thorn being close with her fellow scavengers, teaching a new recruit, or dealing with the hazards of living in a haunted wasteland. That “caring” is one of her listed attributes is lovely, and I’d be happy for some tenderness in there.

Campaign (Podcast): Star Wars
Bacta, Minister Blue, Tap Chitra, Chaf’rin’asyr

Campaign means a lot to me. I mean, not one but two found families, plenty of ship potential, actual ships, and nerds being nerds? I love this show, and I’m surprised by how deeply I’ve gotten into its world.

I would love fic of any one of these characters on their own, and combined with whatever other characters you would like to bring in. This is not a request that requires all four of these people somehow be in the same fic. Also, I am not picky about ships, except that I prefer Blue/Zero for Blue.

Bacta: A good, sad boy. I love his protectiveness and tenderness with Tamlin, his strong feelings for the people he’s lost and the people he’s found, his emotional openness. His and Lyn’s the-only-two-actual-adults-on-board kinship is adorable, and I love the idea of late night hangouts on the ship. I also have a lot of feelings about Sian/Bacta and the whole mess that is left open as canon ends (I have a weakness for Bacta/Sian reunion fics!). You can’t go wrong with Bacta kissing literally anybody, though - let the man get some love. (ETA post-finale: I would also HAPPILY accept Bacta/Tryst feat. the deal about clones they made in Hankerings).

Blue: What a disaster. I have a soft spot for terrible uptight people with too much self-importance and too little skill at connecting with people; I have no idea why. There’s a kind of desperation to be liked/accepted with him, a kind of loneliness he’s decided to fill with colleagues and people he pays while refusing to be open or vulnerable with them. Breaks in his mask and breezy, arrogant front and honest shows of trust and caring are great - whether with Blue, Synox, Aava, or all three. I’m also down for pre-canon, seeing some of Why He Is the Way He Is, although I’d be more into the part where he buckles down and sets about becoming one of the Empire’s youngest Ministers (potentially out of spite) and less into whump.

Tap: Nerds are the best, especially in canons. Tap was such a delight in Side Trip. I’d love to see so much more of his and Lyn’s friendship (where Lyn gets to be the wild card!) and his complicated (and clearly loving, if sometimes strained) family life. I’m down for any level of nerdery with his research and position at the university. And I’d love to know what happens to him after Side Trip - where is he when the Empire is declared? Where is he during the present adventures on the Mynock? Are he and Lyn still in contact?

Chaf’rin’asyr: Look. I loved Side Trip, and it only whetted my appetite for more of its characters. Frina has so much to dig into! Her family and how she left the Ascendancy. Daring and glamorous heists, getting to see more of her whole...everything… in the gentleman thief role. I’m also really interested in the Watson-Holmes relationship she pretended with Thrawn as Thrinpo; did she develop real friendship (or other) feelings? I’d even be down for an AU snippet of Thrawn/”Thrinpo” before her true identity was revealed, because I’m a sucker for a Holmes/Watson dynamic. (Or a tempting him to defect thing, with Frina dangling the observations she made and the things he shared in less-guarded moments, his doubts, his vulnerabilities).

Tricksters - Tamora Pierce
Alianne Cooper

So we’ve talked about dangerous competence and loyalty with Blades, yes? I will always eat that up with a spoon, and Tricksters has that in spades. I love the way this series brings so many people together - Aly ends up with friends in the weirdest places - and how strong some of the bonds forged end up being. And I enjoy Aly’s mixture of slyness, humor, practicality, and warmth. I’d take her with most anyone in the tagset, but here’s some thoughts about her with specific folks:

Dove: I recently came off a re-read, and finished thinking, “Add about eight years, and I would ship some Aly/Dove”. I’m not much interested in Aly cheating on Nawat or getting rid of Nawat, but I’d love for them to find a way to explore past friendship together. There’s such strong loyalty there, plus the fun thing where they’re both almost lonely even surrounded by people who like them - they connect on a level that they do with few other people. I would need a time-skip to when Dove is rather older, but that just adds more opportunity for a new problem to come up in the Isles, or for them to have changed and grown in ways that makes new things surface in their friendship. Alternately, I’m just as happy with fic that explores their friendship, not any kind of shipping.

Junai: They really did not get enough time together in the series. I liked their sort of straight-man/silly one dynamic, while being a good team. For these two, I’d adore AUs of some variety: either Junai gets to live and work with Aly more, or an AU in another genre (I’m not picky!). My kingdom for Aly/Junai “fake dating to cover up that Junai is Aly’s bodyguard” AU (modern or otherwise).

Others: Kyprioth and Aly’s teasing relationship brings me joy, as do the games she plays with Taybur (and the underlying seriousness there - the odd level of understanding). I also enjoy her dynamics with her parents (even when things are rough) and I would love to see more of her with her siblings - maybe even post-canon Aly getting to catch up with one of them after a few years apart (someone comes for an extended stay?).
